2026 Solar Eclipse photograph

On August 12, 2026, many of us had the opportunity to observe a rare astronomical event: a solar eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon positions itself between the Earth and the Sun, aligning the three celestial bodies (Sun – Moon – Earth) almost perfectly along an imaginary plane known as the ecliptic (source: CNES).

Although the path of totality crossed only Spain, an obscuration of over 90% was observable in some areas of France.

While I was unable to travel to Spain to photograph the total eclipse, I went to Prefailles, France, to capture images of this astronomical phenomenon. I am neither a professional photographer nor an astronomy specialist, so the results are modest—simply the work of an amateur.

My full setup is described in detail here: 2026 Eclipse astrophotography project.

Here is an overview of what I was able to capture during the event:

In the photo, you can clearly see sunspots AR4507 and AR4508 😊 !
